2009 Aurora League Awards



Players, supporters, officials and volunteers of the Aurora League celebrated on Saturday 25 July at the Presentation Dinner for the 2009 season. With 180 roster games played by ten clubs across the open and 19 and under divisions, the dinner was an occasion for all involved to let their hair down and celebrate what has been an outstanding year of netball for the state-wide league.
 
2009 Premiers
The two premiership sides of 2009, Country Club Cavaliers in the open division and St Lukes Karana Flames in the 19 & Under division were recognised and presented with signed match balls as souvenirs for their success.
 
Best & Fairest
The best and the fairest players were also revealed with Country Club Cavalier`s Dannie Carstens taking out the Open Best & Fairest Award, with Jo Mitchell from Kingston Blues runner up. In the 19 & Under division, TCY Northern Saints` Victoria Black took the top award as Best & Fairest, while Kristy Wing from Edgewater Optomeyes was awarded the runner up.
 
All Stars Teams & Competition Awards
The best sides for each division were also announced in the 2009 All Stars Teams, which were selected and voted on by club coaches. These sides represent the strongest players from each level of the competition. Following are the two All Stars Teams for 2009.

In addition to voting on the All Stars Teams, the club coaches also have the opportunity to select their most wanted player from each division. The Aurora League clubs selected Cavaliers players Dannie Carstens in the open division and Sophie Manning in the 19’s as their most wanted players.
 
Open coach of St Lukes Karana Flames Clare Bush was voted Coach of the Year, while TCY Northern Saints Kellie Woolnough was awarded the top coaching honour in the 19 and under competition.
 
The umpires were not forgotten on the night either with Josh Bowring awarded the Umpire of the Year and Melissa Holland receiving the Umpire Encouragement Award.
